Guided by the principle of "giving back to the community where we thrive," MEAN WELL Hong Kong has been supporting local charitable donations for many years. Recently, the team gave further thought to how to ground its local charitable efforts, turning good intentions into practical action to serve Hong Kong. Upon learning through local partners that the Hong Kong Council Early Childhood Education and Services (CECES), a deeply rooted charitable organization, was facing a drought in donations due to the pandemic, the MEAN WELL team immediately reached out to offer its support.

On March 21, 2023, MEAN WELL Hong Kong and SDG Group charity officers visited CECES together. Located in an industrial building in Cheung Sha Wan, CECES's simple and unpretentious office was filled with early childhood education resources, reflecting their commitment to making every penny count for children's education and services. During an in-depth meeting with Ms. Sansan Ching, Director of CECES, the team learned that CECES has been dedicated to supporting local early childhood education in Hong Kong for 42 years, quietly making sacrifices to discover and foster children's multiple intelligences through extracurricular activities.

CECES is particularly committed to providing appropriate educational support for children from low-income families, enabling them to participate in diverse activities free of financial burden, while injecting caring energy into families and society across Hong Kong. Upon learning that CECES's long-standing community music program had been suspended due to a shortage of funds caused by the pandemic, the MEAN WELL Hong Kong charity team, with support from the SDG Group charity team, pledged a donation to restart the program. Together with CECES, they co-organized a beginner Ukulele course.

The ukulele was chosen because it is easy to learn, lightweight, and highly portable. Its cute appearance makes it easy for children to hold without strain, making it perfect for satisfying their natural curiosity. Learning to play and sing with the ukulele not only builds children's self-confidence, but also sparks musical creativity through simple accompaniments.

UKULELE CLASS: Beginner Hawaiian Guitar Course

This course offered free enrollment to music-loving children from low-income families. Renowned instructor Mr. Tsang, a graduate of The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts with a Master's degree in Music Therapy, was invited to lead a series of 25 classes. During a class observation in June, Mr. Tsang demonstrated sheet music and rhythms with lively singing and expressive gestures to guide fingerings for the lower-primary students. The children responded with warm smiles, playing along step-by-step with the rhythm. Filled with engaging interactions and constant laughter, everyone thoroughly enjoyed the warm atmosphere. After just eight sessions, these little musicians had already mastered basic fingering and sheet reading, and could even play several nursery rhymes. We look forward to seeing them step onto the stage with confidence at the MEAN WELL Hong Kong Charity Concert on October 28 to share the fruits of their learning!

This music program represents a major milestone in MEAN WELL Hong Kong's charitable sponsorship efforts. Moving forward, MEAN WELL Hong Kong will actively participate in local welfare and environmental protection activities, fulfilling its responsibilities as a local corporate citizen and implementing the Group's SDG vision. On this multicultural land of Hong Kong, we aim to spread more love and care for those around us together.
